La filatura pettinata

Può sembrare scontato ma non tutti i filati sono uguali. Esistono due tipologie principali, i filati pettinati e quelli cardati. Un filato pettinato ha un aspetto compatto, liscio e uniforme, un cardato è più soffice e voluminoso. Questa settimana abbiamo potuto conoscere il processo di filatura pettinata. Grazie alle aziende biellesi Successori Reda 1865, Botto Poala e Vitale Barberis Canonico, che ci hanno ospitato per questo stage, ci siamo resi conto di quanto sia complesso il ciclo produttivo per ottenere questo tipo di filato. Infatti, molti sono i passaggi che servono a parallelizzare le fibre, distenderle, ordinarle, miscelarle e uniformarle. Alla fine di questo processo, si ottiene un prodotto destinato soprattutto alla tessitura, ma anche alla maglieria fine, che dà al capo finito una mano leggera e fresca.

It may sound obvious but yarns are not all the same. There are two main types, worsted yarns and carded ones. A worsted yarn is compact, smooth and uniform, a carded one is softer and more voluminous. This week we had the chance to discover the worsted spinning process. Thanks to companies such as Successori Reda 1865, Botto Poala and Vitale Barberis Canonico, which hosted us for this internship, we quickly realized how complex it is the production cycle to obtain this kind of yarn. In fact, the process takes many steps to parallelize, to lay out, to tidy up, to mix and to level out the fibers. The result of the process is a product made for weaving, but also for fine knitwear, which gives to finished garment a light and fresh hand.
