La tradizione inglese nel tessile
Le economie globali e i progressi tecnologi raggiunti fino ad oggi hanno trasformato nel tempo quelle che erano produzioni locali e artigianali in aziende altamente industrializzate dove i ritmi di lavoro sono sempre più veloci. Questi cambiamenti hanno fatto sì che troppo spesso la cura per la qualità abbia ceduto alle tentazioni della quantità.
Esistono però ancora delle realtà che, controcorrente, vogliono vivere della tradizione e dell’artigianato, utilizzando l’esperienza del passato per produrre capi di alta qualità ma che rispecchino le richieste del mercato moderno.
Tanti sarebbero gli esempi da fare in Italia ma questa volta ci troviamo in Inghilterra, per l’ultima nostra avventura all’estero. In quest’occasione abbiamo avuto la possibilità di visitare la Bower Roebuck, lanificio nato nel XVI° secolo che ancora oggi produce raffinatissimi tessuti di gusto inglese e li esporta in tutto il mondo.
In Inghilterra come nel nostro paese c’è una grande tradizione tessile ma che ha portato allo sviluppo di un prodotto diverso da quello italiano. I tessuti inglesi, in genere, sono più pesanti, hanno una mano più calda e secca, e sono caratterizzati da pattern tipici come righe e quadri realizzati con vivaci abbinamenti di colore.
Ringraziamo la Bower Roebuck per averci introdotto nella tradizione dei tessuti inglesi e averci dato l’opportunità di assistere dal vivo alla realizzazione dei loro tessuti.

Global economies and technological advances achieved so far, have converted over time the local craft production in highly industrialized companies where the work rate became ever faster. This led to big productions where the quality had been fighting against the need of quantity.
However, there are companies that want to keep their tradition and craftsmanship, using past experience to produce high quality garments respecting the demands of modern market.
Many would be the Italian examples but this time we are in England for our last trip abroad. On this occasion, we had the opportunity to visit the Bower Roebuck, a woollen mill born in the XVI° century which still produces sophisticated English fabrics and exports them worldwide.
England, as our country, has a great textile tradition which has developed a different textile product than the Italian one. The English fabrics are generally heavier, warmer, dry hand-feel and they are characterized by typical patterns like stripes and checks made with typical colours.
We thank the Bower Roebuck for introducing us in the world of English fabrics and for giving us the opportunity to witness live the creation of their textiles.
