Claudia, Cristina, Elisa, Luca e Stefania, sono i nostri nomi, siamo noi la rosa dei selezionati per la ventinovesima edizione del Master delle Fibre Nobili. Siamo noi che, da poco più di un mese, abbiamo iniziato ad entrare nelle aziende e poter vedere e toccare un certo "saper fare industria", unico nel suo genere. È passato poco più di un mese ma abbiamo già visto tanto e tanto altro ancora vedremo.
Abbiamo visto montagne di lana merinos proveniente dall’Oceania che aspetta di essere lavata, abbiamo visto la lavorazione dei cascami di seta, impressionandoci per le dimensioni del lepidottero che ne produce la materia prima. Abbiamo visto il miglior lino europeo, abbiamo visto anche la lana europea trasformata a Biella da un signore inglese che ha scelto una strada piuttosto insolita. Abbiamo poi visto le innumerevoli e variegate fantasie dei filati del GTI e di Lucafil che ci hanno lasciati a bocca aperta.
Però, non abbiamo visto solo una materia prima eccellente, una tecnologia all’avanguardia ed un prodotto finito di altissima qualità, abbiamo visto prima di tutto delle persone che, quotidianamente, con tenacia, forza e passione, lavorano instancabilmente per tenere in piedi il comparto tessile italiano affinché possa continuare a camminare con le proprie gambe.
Da Buratti si respira storia e colpisce lo scintillare delle sue sete, pure o in mista con fibre naturali pregiate o fibre cellulosiche artificiali. La Pettinatura di Romagnano Sesia è una delle poche rimaste in Italia; qui arrivano tonnellate e tonnellate di lana sucida che viene lavata e pettinata sapientemente, per poi proseguire la sua metamorfosi nei migliori lanifici. Meno pregiate ma incredibilmente fascinose sono le lane autoctone europee classificate e trasformate da Nigel Thompson che, col suo progetto The Woolcompany, fornisce un servizio direttamente all’allevatore coniugando etica e valorizzazione dei territori.
Il Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale ci ha aperto gli occhi su una fibra tanto antica quanto pregiata, il lino, una fibra elegante, prestante ed ecosostenibile.
Al GTI la fantasia del pensare il filato si tramanda di generazione in generazione con la freschezza e la voglia costante di creare nuovi accostamenti, colori e combinazioni. I filati fantasia di Lucafil raccontano della voglia di trasformazione e adattamento di un piccolo terzista del biellese che con umiltà e costanza crea morbidissimi filati per l’alta moda.

Claudia, Cristina, Elisa, Luca, Stefania, that’s our names! We are the five candidates selected for the twenty-ninth edition of the Foundation “Biella Master Delle Fibre Nobili”. We are the lucky ones who will have the opportunity to live a very unique experience. It's been over a month since the beginning of our course but we have already seen so much and more we'll see in the months to follow.
Starting from the very beginning of the whole textile process, we have seen mountains of merino wool coming from Australia and New Zealand waiting to be washed. The combing company of Romagnano Sesia is one of the few remaining in Italy. Here tons and tons of greasy wool is expertly washed, combed and it’s ready for continuing its metamorphosis in the best woollen mills.
Ready for another visit we moved to Miagliano where different types of European wool are collected in Biella by an English gentleman who has chosen a rather unusual life path. Within his project The Woolcompany, Nigel Thompson provides a service directly to the breeder, combining ethics and valorization of the territories. The Woolcompany aims to reevaluate a material less valuable but still incredibly charming such as the European autochthonous wools.
Beyond the best qualities of wool, we had the opportunity to further explore other fibres. The Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale has opened our eyes to a fibre as old as it is precious. The linen is elegant, performing and eco-sustainable and the European quality is recognized as the best. Buratti company deals with the processing of silk waste. Within the company, you can breathe history and hit the sparkle of its silks, pure or mixed with precious natural fibres or artificial cellulose fibres.
Lastly, we discovered how from excellent raw materials combined with a good dose of creativity GTI company, Gruppo Tessile Industriale, and Lucafil company create fancy yarns. At GTI the desire to create original yarns is handed down over generations. The yarns produced by Lucafil tell the desire of a small contractor to constantly transform and adapt his skills, manufacturing soft yarns for haute couture. From our experience, we have seen an excellent raw material, a cutting-edge technology and a finished product of the highest quality. Above all, we have seen people who work with passion and tenacity holding up the Italian textile sector so that it can stand on its own feet.
