Tutta la filiera della lana per 2 giorni a Biella: IWTO Round Table 2016
L’IWTO, International Wool Textile Organisation, è stata costituita nel 1930 grazie a un accordo tra i maggiori rappresentanti dell’industria tessile mondiale. È l'autorità che rappresenta gli interessi del commercio laniero a livello globale, facilita le strategie di settore, garantisce gli standard di produzione e sostenibilità e favorisce il collegamento tra i vari attori del mercato. Ogni anno, l’IWTO organizza una tavola rotonda dove si approfondiscono i temi di settore critici.
Il 28 e 29 novembre abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di partecipare a questo evento svolto a Città Studi di Biella. Durante la prima giornata si è discusso sui percorsi di formazione universitari e post universitari relativi al tessile, individuando le figure più richieste dalle aziende e sottolineando l’importanza della ricerca universitaria come stimolo all’innovazione di settore. I relatori erano i docenti e i ricercatori delle maggiori università al mondo come il Prof. Giorgio Rovero (Politecnico di Torino), la Prof.ssa Ellen Bendt (Hochschule Niederrhein University of Applied Science), la Prof.ssa Sandra Heffernan (School of design university of New Zealand), la Dott.ssa Beverley Henry (Queensland University of Technology and Wool LCA TAG Member) e il Prof. Paul Kiekens (Ghent University). Molto interessante è stato l’intervento di Emilie King dell’AWI, che ha presentato i progetti di formazione e sensibilizzazione sulla lana sponsorizzati da Woolmark e AWI. Il secondo giorno si è parlato dei trend di settore nel retail con la testimonianza della Dott.ssa Prisca Rolando di Lanieri e dell’Ing. Lorenzo Dovesi del Gruppo Benetton. E’ stata evidenziata la sempre maggiore tendenza del mercato a chiedere lane “no mulesing”, argomento sollevato dalla Dott.ssa Pamela Ravasio dell’European Outdoor Group.
È stato molto interessante partecipare a questo incontro non solo perché ci ha dato l’opportunità di approfondire questi temi sotto diversi punti di vista, ma soprattutto perché abbiamo constatato l’importanza di mettere insieme le idee e le opinioni dei diversi attori della filiera per trovare soluzioni ai problemi che presenta il mercato e raggiungere obiettivi condivisi. The IWTO, International Wool Textile Organisation, was established in 1930, thanks to an agreement between the most important representatives of the textiles world. It is the authority that represents the interests of the wool textile trade at a global level, facilitates the implementation of industry strategies, ensures the production and sustainability standards and fosters connections between the different market players.
Every year, the IWTO organizes a Round Table in which it discusses the critical issues of the industry.
On November 28th and 29th, we had the opportunity to take part in this event, held in Città Studi di Biella (University facility).
The first day, the discussion was about university and post-university training courses focus on textiles industry, the job figures that companies are looking for and the importance of university research as an incentive to boost innovation. The speakers were professors and researchers from the best universities such as Giorgio Rovero (Professor of Politecnico di Torino), Ellen Bendt (Professor of Hochschule Niederrhein University of Applied Science), Sandra Heffernan (Professor of School of design university of New Zealand), Beverley Henry (Queensland University of Technology and Wool LCA TAG Member) and Paul Kiekens (Professor of Ghent University). One of the highlights of the event was the speech held by Emilie King, concerning training and awareness-raising projects about wool sponsored by Woolmark and AWI.
The second day was focused on the latest industry trends in retail with the testimony of Prisca Rolando, Product Manager of Lanieri and Lorenzo Dovesi, CEO of Benetton Group. Furthermore, the raising awareness regarding "no mulesing" wool, topic was presented by Pamela Ravasio, Head of CSR & Sustainability of European Outdoor Group..
It was an incredible opportunity to attend the IWTO Round Table. It gave us the possibility to explore wool market critical issues from different points of view. And to see the importance of putting together ideas and opinions of different market players to solve the problems and achieve shared goals. We would like to thank International Wool Textile Organisation for hosting us during these highly formative days.
