Il "suono" della lana

Immaginatevi un signore sulla sessantina in mezzo a tanti lotti di lana sucida intento a individuare le migliori partite. Ad un certo punto prende un fiocco, lo apre, preleva un campione e tendendolo fra le mani inizia a pizzicarlo come se stesse suonando una chitarra.

Finezza, lunghezza, resistenza... sono tutte caratteristiche importanti per determinare la qualità di una fibra. Eppure, i migliori broker, sanno che la lana va toccata, va palpata, va sentita. Eh si, perché la lana " suona " ! Ed è così che questo signore sulla sessantina sta facendo la sua selezione, guidato dal suo istinto e dal suono che fa la lana. Più il suono che si crea è netto e definito, migliore è la qualità della fibra.

Questa manualità e conoscenza si acquista solo con il tempo e l'esperienza. Noi abbiamo provato a farlo, ma per il momento ci stiamo ancora esercitando.

In a farm, a gentleman on his sixties is looking at a variety of greasy wool. His aim is to identify the best quality wool there is.

At one point, he takes a staple, opens it and takes a sample of fiber. Stretching it with his bare hands, he starts to pluck it as if he were playing a guitar.

Fineness, length and tenacity, all important features to determine the quality of a fiber. Yet the best broker knows that these are not enough, for the wool has to be touched, felt and heared.

Oh yes, because the wool " sounds " ! This is how the gentleman is making his selection, guided by his instinct and the sound that the wool makes.

The more defined the sound is the better the quality of the fiber. A knowledge that comes with time and real life experience. We tried to learn how to do it, as of now, we are a work in progress.
