Our Last Goodbye

Manca poco al termine della nostra avventura e dopo tredici intensi mesi di studio è arrivata l'ora di "tirare le somme" ed entrare finalmente a far parte del mondo lavorativo, mettendo in pratica tutto ciò che abbiamo imparato.
Sembra ieri quando, un anno fa siamo arrivati a Biella carichi di entusiasmo e speranze, impauriti ma allo stesso tempo impazienti di scoprire tutto quello che fa parte del mondo tessile. Ripensiamo ai nostri primi stage in pettinatura e carderia, in tintoria e finissaggio, al rumore assordante dei telai in tessitura e quello delle macchine da cu cire in sartoria; le trasferte a Napoli, Firenze, Prato, Soragna e Milano, in cui abbiamo avuto l'opportunità di conoscere nuove aziende e realtà, al di là di quella Biellese. Non ci si rende conto dell'incredibile opportunità che il Biella Master è in grado di offrirti, fin quando non si parte alla scoperta: del retail a New York, degli allevamenti di Alpaca in Perù, della tosatura e delle aste per la lana in Australia e Nuova Zelanda, per terminare con la lavorazione della seta e del cashmere in Cina e Mongolia. Tre mesi in giro per il mondo, durante i quali i tuoi compagni di corso diventano non solo persone con cui condividi la stessa passione, ma anche i tuoi primi sostenitori ed amici.
Un grazie va a tutte le persone che ci hanno aiutato ed ispirato in questo percorso: ai nostri insegnanti, che durante i giorni di lezione hanno saputo trasmetterci tutta la loro conoscenza e passione, alle Aziende e ai loro dipendenti che ci hanno ospitato ed accolto, alla Fondazione e al suo Presidente, che sin dal primo giorno hanno creduto in noi, ma soprattutto al Professor Schiapparelli, che con saggezza, dolcezza e professionalità, ha saputo capirci ed aiutarci durante tutto il nostro percorso.
After thirteen months of hard work, we are sadly approaching the end of our adventure. Thus,it is now time to take stock and jump into the real working world trying to make the best out of what we have learnt so far.
It seems just yesterday when we arrived in Biella a year ago, filled with high hopes and enthusiasm, impatient and curious to discover the hidden corners of the textile industry.
We look back at our first trainings on spinning and combing mills, in dyeing and finishing manufactures, as well as at the fascinating noise of the sewing machines in tailoring ateliers and at the loud yet intriguing sound of the looms. Our adventure also offered us the opportunity of getting to know companies with completely different modus operandi and that developed in massively different ways from the ones in the Biella area, such as Naples, Florence, Prato and Milan.
It is rather emotional getting to realise what an incredible opportunity the Biella Master of Noble Fibres gave us and what can represent for future generations to come. From the trip to the various showrooms of New York to the alpaca farms in Peru, stepping by the wool auctions and the shearing in Australia and New Zealand. Last but not least, the wonderful trip to China where we had the chance to learn more about silk and cashmere. All these experiences have been truly amazing and breath-taking, we shall consider ourselves lucky and honoured to have had the chance to live them. Three months around the world made simple classmates become not only people you share your passion with, but also your first supporters and friends.
We would like to propose a huge “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts to all the people who helped us and inspired us along this path. Teachers who shared with us their experiences and passions on a daily basis, companies and employees which welcomed us and taught us their expertise, the Biella Master Foundation and its President who from the very first day believed in us, but especially our main teacher Eng. Giovanni Schiapparelli, who with wisdom and dedication understood and helped us every single day through this unbelievable journey.
